The Sevillian influencer Marta Hermoso, 35 years old, was arrested by the National Police along with three other individuals for stealing 400,000 euros in jewelry and money from the 43-year-old Mexican businessman Enrique Abascal. The robbery took place in September of last year inside one of the rooms of the prestigious Wellington hotel, located on Velázquez street, the epicenter of luxury in Madrid.
The arrests took place at the end of 2024, following an investigation carried out by the Judicial Police group of the Salamanca district police station. All those arrested were released pending charges for a robbery with force.
Marta Hermoso, on her part, denied any involvement in the robbery and claimed to have no connection to the events. However, the hotel's security cameras clearly identified her, completely debunking her version. Additionally, after her involvement in the case became known, the Sevillian deleted all her social media profiles, in an attempt to distance herself from the controversy and avoid media repercussions.
The businessman arrived in Spain on Wednesday, September 25th. Three days later, he was robbed. He left his room at the Wellington hotel around 9:30 a.m. Upon returning in the afternoon, he found the door forced open, the room ransacked, and the safe missing, which had been ripped off the closet table, as reported last weekend by the Telecinco program Fiesta.
They had taken three luxury watches valued at 360,000 euros: a Patek Philippe and two Audemars Piguet. In addition, several bracelets worth 6,700 euros, 5,000 euros in cash, and other personal effects such as a suitcase, a toiletry bag, and various lower-value items disappeared as discreetly as they had entered.
The National Police investigation began with a review of the hotel's recordings. It was confirmed that the businessman entered the hotel with a woman in the early hours of September 28th. That same night, he returned to the Wellington with another woman, later identified as the influencer Marta Hermoso.
The hotel's security cameras captured a first suspect, identified as author 1, who on the morning of the robbery entered the establishment and went up to the vicinity of room 423, in what seemed to be a prior reconnaissance. After lunch, two other young individuals -author 2 and author 3- entered the hotel dressed in sportswear, went up to the fourth floor, and accessed the same room.
They left after a few minutes: one of them left with a gray suitcase stolen from the victim; the other with a backpack presumably carrying the tools used to force the door and rip off the safe.
During the investigation, one of the police officers managed to identify author 1, Daniel, for having arrested him on numerous occasions in the Usera-Villaverde district when he worked at that police station. Additionally, Daniel had made a reservation on the day of the robbery, which he later canceled, and his car was fined for improper parking next to the Wellington hotel.
After locating Daniel, the agents delved into his circle until discovering that his brother had been arrested on several occasions along with two other men who turned out to be author 2, Isaac C., 20 years old, and author 3, Juan Ramón J., 22 years old.
Once identified, the National Police arrested Daniel, who at the time of his capture was wearing the same sneakers he had on the day of the robbery. In his statement, he admitted that he had arranged to meet a woman that would later be identified as the influencer.
According to Daniel's account, it was Marta Hermoso who devised the plan and proposed to him to take the luxury watches stored in the safe of room 423. He mentioned that he rented a room in his name at the Wellington hotel and, once settled, received a call from the influencer -whom he knew from before- asking him to go up to room 423, where she was with a client.
When he knocked on the door, she was the one who greeted him. He did not cross the threshold. As he narrates, Hermoso confessed to him that she was accompanying the Mexican businessman staying there. It was at that moment when she told him that in the safe of the room, there were high-end watches and a stack of bills.
The plan was simple. She would take the businessman out to eat outside the hotel -they planned to go afterwards to a hunting ground where he usually practiced shooting- and Daniel would have until 5:00 p.m. to enter the room and empty the safe. If they returned earlier, she would notify him by phone.
However, Daniel claims that he rejected the plan of the influencer. According to his version, he left the hotel and requested a refund for the room he had paid for. The hotel reimbursed him.
The Police showed Daniel the frames of the two women who entered the hotel with the victim, and he clearly identified Marta Hermoso, who was arrested last December on the same Velázquez street where she resides.
Marta argued that she was only in the room for ten minutes. She maintains that she only accompanied the businessman for him to change shoes. She could not recall the room number, but affirmed that in that brief interval, she only saw Enrique swapping one watch for another. Additionally, she denied seeing the safe combination or its contents.
Nevertheless, the Police believe that there are sufficient indications pointing to the alleged involvement of Marta Rosalía Hermoso in the events, given that she had firsthand information about the businessman's belongings in the safe, as well as the time he would be away from the room.
One of the hotel employees explained to the agents that they did not enter the room until the victim returned because they did not notice any signs of violence on the door. She also stated that morning, the adjacent room was cleaned, but not theirs, as someone had hung the "do not disturb" sign on the doorknob, which the businessman suspects the detainees placed to avoid raising suspicions.
