The Chinese government has responded this Sunday to the tariff exemptions on electronic products declared by the United States over the weekend as a "small step" in correcting a wrong decision. Beijing now calls on Donald Trump to acknowledge the "mistake" he has made and completely revoke the additional tariffs ordered on April 2nd.

The US exemptions, published in a bulletin by the Customs and Border Protection Agency of the country, represent a limitation of tariffs by excluding smartphones, computers, microprocessors, and other electronic products from two types of tariffs: the 125% tariff applied to China and the base tariff of 10% for almost all other countries, as reported by Europa Press agency.

In response, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce has indicated that it is currently "assessing the relevance of the impact" of the exemptions but has nevertheless estimated that "it is a small step to correct the wrong practice represented by reciprocal tariffs." Thus, Beijing believes that since the outbreak of the tariff war, "the US has not only failed to solve any internal problems but has seriously undermined the international economic and trade order, seriously interfered with the normal production and operation of companies and the lives and consumption of people, and harmed others."

In this regard, the Chinese government urges the US to "listen to rational voices" both inside and outside its borders and follow this decision with "a big step to correct its mistakes, and completely eliminate this practice" to "return to the path of mutual respect and resolution of differences through dialogue on equal terms."
