After a day of calm, drone attacks have resumed early this morning in the war between Ukraine and Russia. Kiev authorities have reported one person dead and 10 injured, including a baby and a 7-year-old child, in different bombings in the Zaporiyia and Kharkiv regions.
Meanwhile, Russian anti-aircraft defense units destroyed 93 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 87 of them intercepted over the border region of Kursk, where 60 people had to be evacuated when drone debris fell on their apartment building.
The attacks come shortly after both Russia and Ukraine reported to the United States alleged violations of the energy truce negotiated with Washington.
Kremlin Says Dimitriev's Visit to the US is "Possible"
The Kremlin has stated that a visit to the United States by President Vladimir Putin's envoy, Kirill Dimitriev, is "possible" and that contacts with the United States continue. Reuters had reported that Dimitriev is expected to be in Washington this week for talks with the Donald Trump administration.
Russia Also Claims Ukraine Attacked Its Energy Infrastructure
The Russian Ministry of Defense has accused Ukraine of attacking Russian energy facilities twice in the last 24 hours, despite the agreement to respect these infrastructures. Moscow asserts that Kiev carried out drone attacks and bombings on facilities in the Russian region of Kursk, causing power outages.
Meeting on Friday in Kiev Regarding a Possible Peace Contingent
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that military representatives from countries willing to send troops to a contingent that could be deployed in Ukraine to ensure compliance with a potential peace agreement will meet on Friday for the first time in Ukraine.
"We will have a meeting on Friday. It will be a meeting of our military teams from various countries, a small circle of countries. Those who are ready to deploy a contingent in one way or another," Zelensky said at a press conference held in Kiev on Tuesday night.
Ukraine and some of its European allies are working on creating a peacekeeping military contingent that could be deployed in Ukrainian territory to prevent Russia from attacking again once a peace agreement is signed. The Kremlin has already indicated it will reject this possibility in negotiations.
Zelensky Reports Damage to Energy Facilities Leaving 4,000 Users Without Power
Volodymyr Zelensky reported on his X account that Russian attacks tonight caused damage to energy facilities in the Ukrainian regions of Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk, despite Ukraine and Russia agreeing to a pause in attacks on these infrastructures.
The Ukrainian president specified that a drone hit a substation in Sumy and artillery fire damaged a power line in Dnipropetrovsk, leaving 4,000 consumers without electricity in both regions.
Trump's Negotiations on the Brink: Putin Unwilling to Stop
Donald Trump is beginning to see one of the flagship promises of his second presidential campaign on the verge of collapse. His peace proposal in Ukraine is not progressing, and Trump is starting to realize something that, from outside the White House, is very evident: Vladimir Putin has played with him during crucial weeks. The reality is that Zelensky accepted the unconditional 30-day truce proposed by Washington while Putin engaged in his typical mind games: a "yes but no" to feign interest that was actually a flat-out refusal. This past weekend, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov put words to the evidence and admitted that the energy truce no longer exists and that the maritime truce won't either.
Ukraine Claims Russia Launched 74 Drones
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched 74 drones in their overnight attack. Kiev's defenses shot down 41 drones, and another 20 drones did not reach their targets, likely due to electronic warfare countermeasures, according to a statement released on Telegram.
Russia Destroys 93 Ukrainian Drones
Russian anti-aircraft defense units destroyed 93 Ukrainian drones overnight, according to the Russian state news agencies TASS and RIA. 87 of them were destroyed over the Kursk region. In Kursk, 60 people had to be evacuated when drone debris fell on their apartment building, as reported by the regional governor.
One Dead and Ten Injured in Zaporiyia and Kharkiv
Ukrainian authorities reported that Russian drone attacks in the Zaporiyia and Kharkiv regions resulted in one dead and ten injured. In the former, a 45-year-old man died from the impact of an "enemy drone" that hit parked vehicles in front of a house. Additionally, a 44-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman were injured.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Kharkiv city, Igor Terejov, reported eight injured, including a baby and a 7-year-old child.
Zelensky Presents a List of Russian Violations of the Energy Truce
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced late Tuesday that his team had presented the United States with a list of alleged Russian violations of the energy truce that both warring parties had committed to respect.
Zelensky took this step after Russia earlier announced the delivery of its own list of alleged violations of the energy truce by Ukraine.
"We have shared (with the US) all necessary information about Russia's violations in the energy sector: there have been attacks, and today there was another attack in Kherson, a Russian drone attacked energy infrastructure and equipment, completely deliberately and on purpose," Zelensky said in his national address.
The Ukrainian president called for each violation to be documented and receive a response from Ukraine's partners, emphasizing that "the unconditional cessation of attacks proposed by the US is not being implemented simply due to Russia's stance."
Russia and Ukraine Inform US of Bombings on Their Energy Facilities
Ukraine and Russia complained to the United States on Tuesday about bombings on their energy facilities, with Kiev calling for Washington to strengthen sanctions against Moscow to increase pressure.
Last week, the United States issued two statements indicating a moratorium on bombings of energy facilities in Russia and Ukraine, but no specific date or conditions were stipulated following talks in Saudi Arabia.
Both sides have accused each other of breaking an alleged agreement to stop bombing energy facilities, despite there being no formal agreement on the matter and the commitments made by the parties not being clear.
