The US President, Donald Trump, lashed out at actor George Clooney in the last hours, referring to him as a "second-rate movie star," after the actor criticized the state of press freedom in the country during an interview with CBS News, as reported by Efe.
"Why would the now discredited '60 Minutes' show such an exaggerated segment about George Clooney, a second-rate movie star and a failed political commentator?" Trump hinted in a post on his Truth Social network.
The president's post came after Clooney stated that "when the executive, legislative, and judicial powers fail, the fourth power (the press) must prevail" during the promotion of his Broadway debut; an adaptation of 'Good Night, and Good Luck', which he directed for the big screen in 2005.
"Governments do not like press freedom. They never have. And this applies to conservatives as well as progressives, or whichever side they belong to. They don't like the press," added the Oscar-winning actor.
Both Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, have been characterized in their careers by advocating for progressive values, they have a foundation for human rights and social justice worldwide, and their ideals have always been much closer to the Democratic Party.
During the last election campaign, Clooney withdrew his support for former President Joe Biden with a column in The New York Times that was considered crucial for the former Chief Executive to abandon the reelection race.
Something that Trump also brought up on Truth Social, stating that the actor "fought hard for the election of 'Sleepy' Joe (Biden)" and that, right after the debate, he "dismissed him like a dog."
"Later, I guess by orders from the Obama team, he completely switched to Kamala, only to soon realize that it was going nowhere," the US President elaborated.
In fact, the filmmaker also referred on '60 Minutes' to the failure of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and took another jab at Trump: "Well, I don't know, what was she supposed to do? Storm the damn Capitol?"
In "Good Night, and Good Luck," Clooney (63 years old) portrays veteran journalist Edward R. Murrow, who engaged in a historic televised confrontation with Senator Joseph McCarthy.
