The second-generation Chromecast and Chromecast Audio have stopped working. Google has not announced any updates or changes to their systems, leading many users to suspect that it may be the increasingly common planned obsolescence, meaning the end of a device's lifespan due to lack of support.

The problem is specific to second-generation and Audio devices; the new third-generation and Ultra models have not been affected. The devices are not functioning and display a message indicating a firmware issue: "Device not trusted. Could not verify. This may be due to outdated firmware."

Google has acknowledged the issue but has not detailed its origin. "We are aware of an emerging issue affecting 2nd generation Chromecast and Chromecast Audio devices, and we are working on a solution. Do not factory reset your device; we will keep you informed when the solution is implemented. If you have already factory reset your device, we will provide instructions to set it up again as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience," they wrote on the official Google Nest Community account on Reddit.

The problem is that the mentioned devices do not allow content to be sent from a mobile phone or tablet to a computer or television. This issue has been reported from countries around the world such as Brazil, Japan, Europe, the United States, and Argentina.
