The first speech by Trump in Congress in this second term has been like his early days in the presidency, controversial and noisy. So much so that Democratic congressman from Texas Al Green was expelled for interrupting the President of the United States, as reported by Efe.
Al Green, 78, stood up and moved his cane to respond to Trump, but his protest was drowned out by shouts from the Republican bench and he was then escorted by House staff to the exit, after being called to order by the Speaker of the House, Republican Mike Johnson.
Before the congressman from Texas was expelled, the boos from the Democrats mingled with the cheers of the Republicans shouting "USA!", Donald Trump's war cry, in a tense start to the speech.
Green stated on his social media that "it was worth it" to be able to send the message that Democrats will oppose the president's intention to cut essential programs for Americans.
'I will accept the punishment. It is worth it for people to know that some of us will oppose this president's desire to cut Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security,' he said on his X account.
Democrats have denounced that essential programs like Medicaid for low-income individuals, Medicare, and Social Security for retirees are under threat under the new budget proposal from the Trump Administration.
