The British 'premier' Keir Starmer has stated that Ukraine is on an "irreversible path" towards NATO. The Labour leader personally called President Volodymyr Zelenski before his meeting with US Vice President JD Vance to reiterate his support, in coordination with other European countries and despite the recent rapprochement with Washington.
According to a Downing Street spokesperson, Starmer has guaranteed the Ukrainian President "concrete support from the United Kingdom for as long as necessary". The 'premier' assured Zelenski that "there will be no peace talks about Ukraine without Ukraine" and that his country will need "strong security guarantees, more lethal aid, and a sovereign future".
"The 'premier' reiterated the UK's commitment for Ukraine to be on an irreversible path towards NATO, as agreed by the allies in Washington at last year's summit," added the spokesperson.
In an apparent challenge to Trump, on the eve of his inauguration as president on January 20, Starmer traveled to Kiev and made his position clear after apparent cracks in the relationship that emerged following the change of guard in London last summer. "We are with you not only today or tomorrow, for this year or the next, but for 100 years long after this terrible war has ended and Ukraine is free," declared the 'premier'.
