The controversy over the easy access to firearms in the US is once again making headlines. In reality, it never stops being news. The latest tragic episode occurred in the state of Wyoming, in Byron, where a 32-year-old mother ended the lives of three of her daughters and her own.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Tranyelle Harshman shot her four daughters - aged one, two, seven, and nine - before taking her own life, as stated by the Big Horn County Sheriff's Office.
The mother was urgently transported to a nearby hospital along with her seven-year-old daughter, Olivia. According to local police, Harshman succumbed to her injuries after shooting herself.
The 911 emergency service received a call from a woman reporting that her daughters had been shot and believed they were dead. Two were in their cribs upstairs in the house, and the other two were downstairs.
Tranyelle's husband, father of the two youngest girls, later spoke to the media.
"I'm so distraught... I don't even know how to explain it. I'm angry at the decision she made," said Cliff Hashman in an interview with KTVQ.
However, the father urged people not to rush to judge what happened, revealing that Tranyelle was battling post-traumatic stress disorder and postpartum depression.
"People don't understand that mental illness is not just a matter of willpower. They are chemical imbalances in the brain. They are damaged neural pathways," explained Cliff. "She was an amazing mother and loved those children".
On the other hand, Quinn Blackmer, father of the two older daughters, also broke his silence after the tragic family loss.
"I'm furious. I'm doing everything I can to bury this feeling and focus on the present, because that anger won't bring my daughter back," he expressed.
