A car hit a group of people participating in a labor union demonstration in the German city of Munich on Thursday, leaving at least 20 injured, as confirmed by the city's Fire Department. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested and "no longer poses a threat," as reported by the security forces of the Bavarian capital.
According to the Munich Police, the hit-and-run occurred in the area of Dachauerstrasse and Seidelstrasse, near the central railway station.
According to the Bavarian media Bayerische Rundfunk, the car hit people who were demonstrating as part of a strike called by the Verdi union.
It is not yet clear whether this was an accidental hit-and-run or an intentional attack, but the media reports, based on initial witness testimonies, that it apparently was not an accident.
On Friday, the Munich Security Conference will take place, and the U.S. Vice President, JD Vance, and the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, will be present.
