"There is an agreement that a settlement is possible through peace negotiations," said Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, during his daily telephone press conference.

Peskov emphasized that "there is political will, which was confirmed during yesterday's conversation by both parties, to engage in a dialogue to seek a settlement."

"From now on, we have to wait for the first results of the joint work," he said.

He stressed that Moscow has already begun to form the working group that will participate in the negotiations and highlighted that the conversation between both leaders was "very important," as there had been no high-level contacts between Moscow and Washington for a long time.

Putin and Trump agreed to instruct their advisors to organize a bilateral meeting "immediately," similar to the one both leaders held in Helsinki in 2018.

"The previous U.S. Administration supported the view that everything possible should be done to continue the war. The current Administration, from what we see, adheres to the position that everything possible should be done to stop the war and to promote peace," he noted.

He added: "We much prefer the stance of this Administration. We are open to dialogue."

He also denied that both leaders had discussed issues such as a possible ceasefire, the lifting of sanctions, and the recognition of Ukrainian territories annexed by Russia, including the Crimean peninsula.
