Klaus Iohannis, President of Romania, will leave his position next Wednesday. The president announced it on Monday during a speech, citing criticism and protests he faced for remaining in office after the annulment of the presidential elections in December, as reported by Afp.

"To prevent a crisis for Romania and Romanian citizens, I will step down from office on Wednesday," he declared in a speech in Bucharest.

His resignation, ending his term before the scheduled presidential elections in May, comes as the Parliament was about to vote on his suspension.
