Several metro and tram lines have been disrupted, and the Midi train station has been closed after two individuals fired assault rifles at a Brussels station on Wednesday, causing significant disruptions during the morning rush hour, reports Efe. The incident occurred near the Clémenceau metro station in Brussels.

A police spokesperson confirmed to the newspaper La Libre Belgique that shots were fired at the Clémenceau metro station around 7:00 local time. "These would be intimidation shots, fired into the air and not at people. No one was injured, and the incident is not considered terrorist-related," the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the VRT broadcaster stated that the incident, which occurred around 6:15 am (0515 GMT), was likely drug-related and mentioned that the shooters had targeted a person but missed.

According to Le Soir newspaper, surveillance cameras at that station show two hooded men armed with Kalashnikov rifles at the entrance and inside the Clémenceau station.

The police were working this morning to locate the perpetrators, suspected to have fled through the metro tunnel or on the metro itself.

As a result, metro lines 2 and 6 are closed between the Trône and Gare de l'Ouest stations.

Additionally, trams 4 and 10 are interrupted between the Lemonnier and Berkendael stops, as reported by the Stib transport company, which also warned of disruptions on several tram lines.

The police have set up a command post in the Anderlecht neighborhood, near the station where the incident occurred.
