United States President, Donald Trump, and Nvidia CEO, Jensen Huang, talked about DeepSeek, the Chinese company whose AI model performance shook the tech world, and the tightening of AI chip exports during their meeting on Friday at the White House.

Trump did not provide details of the meeting but called Huang a "gentleman". "I can't say what's going to happen. We had a meeting. It was a good meeting," said Trump.

The meeting took place as the government will further restrict the exports of AI chips this spring to ensure that computing power remains in the United States and among its allies, while seeking more ways to block China's access.

"We appreciate the opportunity to meet with President Trump and discuss semiconductor and AI policy," said a spokesperson for Nvidia in a statement. "Jensen and the president discussed the importance of strengthening U.S. technology and artificial intelligence leadership," the statement continued.

In a matter of days, DeepSeek became the most downloaded app in the Apple App Store and raised concerns about U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence, leading to a drop that wiped out around $1 trillion from U.S. tech stocks.

Nvidia's shares, one of the main producers of AI chips, fell by 17%. The Trump administration is considering tightening restrictions on Nvidia's sales of its H20 chips designed for the Chinese market.
