The future First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, launched her own "meme cryptocurrency" on Sunday, named $MELANIA, which hits the market on the eve of her husband, Donald Trump, assuming power.
This past Friday, Trump himself launched his token, which features the elected president with a raised fist, the same gesture he made last July just after being shot in the ear during an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, as reported by Efe.
Meme cryptocurrencies, also known as 'meme coins', are speculative virtual currencies inspired by viral memes on the internet.
Melania's coin, which can be purchased on the website melaniameme.com, shows the wife of the Republican leader in black and white, smiling with hands together covering part of her face.
The available page specifies that it is a digital collectible intended to serve as an expression of support and commitment to the values embodied by her, and emphasizes that it is not intended to be an investment opportunity or subject to it.
Trump's token currently costs around $45, according to the CoinGecko portal.
Although it has experienced an increase of almost 70% in the last 24 hours, in the last hour (as of the valuation at 22:20 GMT), it had dropped by 37%.
