A 34-year-old woman has been arrested by the Australian Police for allegedly poisoning her one-year-old baby to gain followers and collect money from donations, reports Efe echoing a statement released this Thursday by Australian authorities.
The Child Protection and Investigation Unit has accused the woman of torture, alleging that she "filmed and posted videos of the girl while she was in distress and immense pain," content that exploited the infant "and was used to attract monetary donations and online followers," the Queensland state department explains.
In the statement, the Police explain that between August 6 and October 15, 2024, the woman administered various prescription and unauthorized medications to the baby and attempted to conceal this behavior.
However, medical staff at a hospital in southern Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, detected what had happened and informed the Police while the girl was hospitalized last October, when tests revealed unauthorized medications in her blood.
The woman was arrested this Thursday and is charged with crimes such as poisoning and premeditation of the acts, including torture, production of child exploitation material, and fraud.
