It's all bad news for Bashar al-Assad lately, after losing control of Syria, he may now lose his wife Asma al-Assad. The wife of the deposed Syrian leader is seriously ill with leukemia in Moscow, where she remains isolated and with a 50% chance of survival, 'The Daily Telegraph' reported on Wednesday.
The London newspaper, citing sources in direct contact with the family, reports that the leukemia announced last May has returned after a period of remission, and Asma Al-Assad, British-Syrian, "is keeping away from other people to avoid infections."
Her father, the cardiologist Fawaz Akhras, has been taking care of her before and after their arrival in the Russian capital, where the Al-Assads took refuge after the fall of the Syrian regime. Sources say he is "heartbroken," according to the 'Telegraph'.
Asma, 49 years old and born and raised in the United Kingdom, was previously treated for breast cancer, which was declared cured in August 2019.
In recent days, rumors circulated that the wife of the deposed dictator wanted to return to London for treatment and divorce her husband, which the Kremlin apparently denied.
British Foreign Minister David Lammy has made it clear that she will not be allowed entry into the country.
"I want to confirm that she is a sanctioned individual and is not welcome in the United Kingdom," he said in a statement to the House of Commons following the fall of the Syrian regime on December 8, after 14 years in power.
