Lula da Silva, president of Brazil, has undergone another successful surgical procedure after the operation he underwent last Tuesday to drain an intracranial hematoma caused by a fall at his home, reports Efe.

The one-hour procedure aimed to block one of the arteries supplying the meninges to prevent a recurrence of the hematoma for which he was already operated on from Monday night to Tuesday, according to the source.

Outside the Sirio-Libanés hospital in the city of Sao Paulo, Dr. Roberto Kalil told journalists that more details about the operation will be disclosed during a press conference at 10:00 (Brasilia time).

Lula was transferred from Brasilia to Sao Paulo on Monday night for emergency surgery to drain a hematoma detected by doctors after the president experienced severe headaches.

The hematoma resulted from a fall he suffered on October 19 at the Palácio de la Alvorada, the president's official residence, when he hit his head in the bathroom and had to receive five stitches on the back of his head.

The first drainage operation was also considered a success, and shortly after, doctors reported that he was lucid and conversing.

According to Roberto Kalil, the second "complementary" intervention performed on Thursday was planned from the beginning.
