The incident has sunk a large part of the sidewalk and the road, taking with it a couple of motorcycles - parked right at that point - and some trash cans. Fortunately, and as reported by Emergencias Madrid, no injuries have been reported.
"The sinkhole has affected all four lanes of this street. It is about 25-30 square meters and five to six meters deep. Due to the debris and asphalt that has fallen, a large diameter water pipe and other Gas Natural pipes have been affected. But they have already been cut and controlled to ensure safety in the area," explained Álvaro Macías, the duty officer of the Madrid Fire Department who worked on-site. The damaged vehicles that had fallen inside have been removed from the hole with a crane.
Medical personnel, Firefighters from the City Council, and Municipal Police officers have arrived at the scene, the latter to regulate traffic on this rainy Wednesday.
