A day after the first anniversary of the October 7 attack was marked by mourning and demonstrations worldwide, the Israeli army claimed to have killed Suhail Husseini, a senior Hezbollah commander, in a new attack on Beirut as part of the strategy to target the leaders of Hamas and the Lebanese Shiite group.

The army stated that Husseini was involved in the transfer of advanced weapons from Iran and their distribution to different Hezbollah units, and that he was a member of the group's military council.

Israeli attacks have so far killed the overall leader of Hezbollah, Hasan Nasrala, and several of its top commanders in recent weeks.

Israel has expanded its ground offensive against Hezbollah to the coastal region of southern Lebanon, deploying additional troops and urging residents to evacuate the area. The Israeli Army's 146th Armored Division has joined the other three divisions from the ground invasion eight days ago, bringing the total deployed soldiers to over 15,000.

Since that October 7, Israel has been at war with Hamas in Gaza and with its ally Hezbollah in Lebanon, which began launching rockets at its Israeli neighbor on October 8, 2023, a year ago today.

Last week, Israel launched what it considers a limited ground incursion in southern Lebanon. Over 2,000 people have died and more than 9,600 have been injured since the conflict began.

Lebanon has pledged to continue launching rockets, missiles, and drones against Israel until a ceasefire is reached in the Gaza Strip, where its ally Hamas has been at war with Israel for a year, resulting in 42,000 Palestinians dead and 90% of the population displaced.
