As 947 days of war in Ukraine are marked, US President Joe Biden announced on Thursday "an increase in aid to Ukraine in terms of security and a series of additional measures to help Ukraine in this war" hours before a meeting in Washington with his counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky. However, the announcement does not address Kiev's demand to use American long-range missiles to attack Russian territory.

Zelensky will present his Plan of Victory for the war at the White House and reiterate his request to use Western long-range weapons to attack Russian targets.

The Kremlin states that the new Russian nuclear doctrine proposed the day before by President Vladimir Putin, which replaces the one in force since 2020, is a "warning" of a possible attack on Russian territory with Western involvement.

Russia has claimed the capture of Ukrainsk, a city about 30 km west of Donetsk, in eastern Ukraine, which before the invasion had about 10,000 inhabitants, and represents one of the most significant Russian conquests in recent weeks, following the capture of a series of small towns and settlements.

Once again, Russia launched a new nighttime attack with 78 Iranian-made drones and six missiles over various regions. A dozen were launched over Kiev, causing damage to civilian infrastructure.

Ukraine has lost a fifth of its territory in this war and tens of thousands of lives in the conflict. Ukrainian forces, outnumbered, face tough battles against one of the world's most powerful armies in the country's east.

It is unknown if the Ukrainian president will meet with the Republican candidate, former President Donald Trump, but statements from both regarding the war in Ukraine are increasing their distance.

Ukraine says Russia attacked three energy transmission facilities

Russia carried out another massive combined attack on Ukraine's energy system overnight, said Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Thursday, reporting Reuters.

Specifically, three energy transmission facilities were attacked, he said on the Telegram messenger, including one in the southern region of Mykolaiv.

Shmyhal stated that the attacks did not achieve their goal and that the Ukrainian energy system was operating in a "balanced mode."
