Simone Biles regains the crown and wins individual gold, her second in Paris

The queen reclaims her crown. Simone Biles has achieved this Thursday the gold in the individual competition at the Olympic Games in Paris, crowning her as the best gymnast in the world, a title she already won in Rio 2016. The silver went to her rival and friend, the Brazilian Rebeca Andrade, who was only superior to her in one of the four exercises, uneven bars

The U.S. adds two medals in today's competition, as the bronze went to the American Sunisa Lee, who won gold at the Tokyo Games and who, like Biles, won another on Tuesday in the team competition.

After today's performance, Biles solidifies herself as the greatest gymnast of all time, not only for her ability to dominate the air and spin in it like a top but also for the numbers: with today's gold, she is the athlete with the most medals. In total, she has six golds and nine, like the Romanian Nadia Comaneci. Including world championships and games, Biles has 34.

Part of Biles' merit today is that she is the first gymnast to win both individual golds without them being consecutive, that is, with other Olympic Games in between. They were the Tokyo Games, where the athlete withdrew due to mental health issues. This break, with all the problems she has had to face, adds value to today's medal.

In the competition, Biles scored a total of 59.131 and Andrade, 57.932. Both rivals and friends debuted together at the Rio Games. Biles was superior in all but the uneven bars, her least perfected point. In the first rotation, which was vault, Biles scored 15.766 points and Andrade, 15.100. In the second exercise, uneven bars, Andrade was superior and scored 14.666 while the American scored 13.733 points.

On the beam, Biles performed a more rounded routine, scoring 14.566 compared to her rival's 14.133. Only the last exercise remained: floor, where Biles is the undisputed queen. The American was the last to perform it and nailed it.

It is the first individual medal in these Games for Biles, who sought to redeem herself from the difficult moment she experienced in Tokyo. She is one of the sports stars who has generated the most excitement in these Games, as shown by how she filled the Arena de Bercy stadium both on Tuesday and this Thursday. In the stands today were Zinedine Zidane and Nadia Comaneci.

With today's gold, she reaffirms that she remains the queen of the track, the best gymnast, and continues to expand her legend. She increases it because she has more titles than anyone, because she invents jumps that no one has done, that only she is capable of doing, and on top of that, she innovates and twists them each time. She surpasses the rest by far, but above all, she surpasses herself.
