The price of Bitcoin nearly reaches $70,000 (¤64,737.5) on Monday following the statements of former President and Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trump, who stated over the weekend that if he wins the November elections, he will make the United States a "superpower" in cryptocurrencies.

This has caused the value of Bitcoin to surge by almost 3% on Monday, reaching $69,931.8 (¤64,674.4), dragging other crypto assets along with it. Ethereum, the second-largest digital currency, also rises by 3% to $3,356 (just over ¤3,100).

Trump mentioned last Saturday at a cryptocurrency event in Nashville, Tennessee, that if he were to serve a second term, he would work to make the country the "crypto capital of the planet and a bitcoin superpower."

In this regard, he also stated that he would instruct the State authorities not to sell the seized crypto assets from judicial actions against crime, but rather transfer them to what he referred to as a "bitcoin strategic fund."

"It will be the policy of my Administration to retain 100% of all bitcoins currently owned or acquired in the future by the U.S. Government... as the core of the national strategic bitcoin reserve," he explained in statements reported by 'Wired'.
