The Civil Guard has arrested a 63-year-old Spanish man in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) for allegedly trafficking weapons from the United States through the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport, where they seized a total of 34 weapons and a large amount of ammunition.

The investigation, named operation Complutum, began on October 26, 2023, when at the Madrid airport, agents located a postal shipment containing a piece used to modify a firearm through an X-ray scanner.

Originating from the United States and destined for Alcalá de Henares, the recipient could have used it to modify a long gun or hunting weapon, creating "a substantial danger to the public" and an "entirely illegal weapon in Spain," as reported by the Madrid Civil Guard Command.

Investigators followed the trail and traced it back to the suspect's residence, the package's recipient, where they discovered more firearms.

The 63-year-old Spanish man voluntarily allowed a search of his property, where they found five conventional firearms, one homemade firearm, a CO2-powered revolver, an unregistered regulated firearm, 26 prohibited weapons, and a large amount of metallic ammunition and casings for reloading.

He was arrested for allegedly possessing, modifying, and illegally trafficking weapons for commercial purposes, offenses for which he faced judicial proceedings and was released.

The operation was carried out by the ALFA Group of the Civil Guard, specialized in the intervention of firearms and other items in air cargo, both in packages and goods.
