Unknown individuals have placed a banner against the "acceptance" of the Spanish national team and have painted the surnames of Mikel Oyarzabal and Mikel Merino in the municipality of Elorrio (Vizcaya). The banner with the slogan "No to the acceptance of the Spanish national team" has been placed near the church of this municipality governed by EH Bildu since July 2023.

Neither the banner nor the graffiti include authorship, although in recent days the youth of the Basque left-wing group Ernai have launched a campaign to call for a 'boycott' of the Spanish national team. The warning against Oyarzabal has been placed in the Basque town where his mother Dorleta Ugarte resides, who is a well-known fan of Real Sociedad, the club where the player who secured Euro 24 for Spain with his goal plays.

The banner and graffiti, along with a swastika drawing, were placed and painted last night. Almost 900,000 Basques watched the game on television, and thousands of them gathered in Doña Casilda Park in Bilbao, where the PP set up a giant screen and organized a party. There were also collective celebrations in Vitoria, Barakaldo, and Ermua.

This is not the only case of rejection of the national team, as this Monday, the general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, stated that he will never be happy about Spain's victories because "it's not my team, not my king, and not my anthem."
