Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón will be on March 2 at the Oscars gala, as reported by Variety in its digital edition.
The lead actress of Emilia Pérez, nominated for Best Actress this year, also plans to attend the César Awards in Paris on February 28, before the Oscars, as reported by the same source.
Netflix will cover the expenses for the actress to attend the ceremony, which will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
After several weeks of absence from events like the Bafta or the Golden Globes with the rest of the cast of director Jacques Audiard's film, due to some past tweets, it is unknown if she will walk the red carpet or sit with the musical team.
American journalist Sarah Hagi resurfaced a series of tweets by the Spanish actress posted on X (formerly Twitter) between 2020 and 2021, several texts against Muslims (mainly) and racial diversity at the 2022 Oscars, as well as disrespectful comments towards George Floyd.
Before these tweets surfaced, Gascón was a clear favorite for the award, as well as Emilia Pérez - featuring Zoe Saldaña or Selena Gómez- in the 13 categories she is nominated for.
However, the film's chances plummeted after the tweets, leading the production company to remove the lead actress from all promotions and public appearances.
