Singer Elton John is having vision problems. He stated this on Sunday during the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada in London, in which the British artist participated and had difficulty seeing it due to losing his sight after contracting an infection.

"I haven't been able to attend many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my sight. [...] So I find it difficult to see it, but I love to hear it, and well, tonight it sounded good," said John, 77. The artist himself had revealed in September that an infection had left him with "limited vision in one eye" and that situation still persists two months later.

John has been responsible for writing the score for The Devil Wears Prada, a musical based on the 2006 film about a young journalist navigating the glamour and egos of a glossy fashion magazine. The production at the Dominion Theatre in London stars Vanessa Williams in the role of the formidable editor Miranda Priestly, portrayed by Meryl Streep in the movie.

At Sunday's gala, a fundraiser for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, celebrities and fashion industry personalities attended, including designer Donatella Versace and former Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who has always been said to have inspired the character of Priestly. Wintour described the musical as "entertaining."

Already on September 3, John had issued a statement publicly about his vision problems resulting from an infection. "I am healing, but it is an extremely slow process and it will take some time for the vision to return to the infected eye," the singer-songwriter assured through his Instagram account. "I am very grateful for the work of the doctors, nurses, and my family, who have taken care of me a lot in recent weeks," he emphasized.
