A deep silence surrounds everything related to the next film by Christopher Nolan. Although details are scarce and being revealed little by little, just a few days after the confirmation that Matt Damon will star in the film, the casting of Tom Holland in another leading role has been announced, as reported by Europa Press. The movie, which currently has no official title, is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
The film is being developed at Universal, the studio with which the British filmmaker is collaborating again after the success of Oppenheimer, a film that won seven Oscars in the last edition, including Best Picture and Best Director, where Damon portrayed Leslie Groves, the high-ranking U.S. Army officer in charge of the Manhattan Project.
Neither the director nor the company have provided comments on the plot of the new film, but as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, sources suggest that it will not be set in the present and, according to Variety, it may mark the director's return to one of his favorite genres, spy movies. It is also known that it will not be a remake of the 1967 British series The Prisoner, as previously speculated.

Apart from his role in Oppenheimer, Damon also had a brief appearance in Interstellar as the doctor and astronaut Hugh Mann, making this his third collaboration with Nolan. On the other hand, Holland's casting marks his first time working with the Oscar-winning filmmaker.
Additionally, the actor who plays Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to film the fourth installment of the web-slinging hero, whose script he has already read, so he will have to juggle both projects in 2025. Furthermore, it is expected that the actor will have a significant role in Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
