Singer Rosalía has announced that she will release her next song, Omega, next Friday. She made the announcement on social media with a video showing the Catalan artist on a roller coaster with singer Ralphie Choo, who collaborates with her on this new song.
In the last few hours, Rosalía had teased a small acapella snippet of what could be one of her new songs, apparently a copla, which could be part of her upcoming musical project. She also revealed that it will be linked to the Greek alphabet letter 'omega'.
"You and I lost, among poppies / Your eyes shine, they are like two guns / Tongues embrace, they are no longer alone / In my memory, you have shot me," sings the Catalan artist in an audio shared with her followers on her WhatsApp channel.
Yet to dress the song with its production, based on the melody and content, on first listen, it seems that Rosalía will delve into the realm of copla with this song, a territory she lightly explored in her first album, Los Angeles (2017), with a more flamenco style.
On the other hand, Ralphie Choo was one of the musical revelations of 2023. A knee injury while playing soccer led him to create his musical project. His work has been played on US public radio and praised by artists from Rosalía to publications like Pitchfork and Billboard.
In recent weeks, the Spanish artist made headlines for collaborating with South Korean artist Lisa on the song New Woman, which has surpassed 135 million views. This was her first new material since her collaboration in November 2023 with Björk on Oral.
It's worth noting that in March, her meeting with renowned composer Manuel Alejandro was made public. Alejandro is known for songs like Si amanece and Como yo te amo' for Rocío Jurado, and Yo soy aquel and Qué sabe nadie for Raphael. He revealed that Rosalía and Alejandro Sanz had commissioned a new song to perform as a duet.
The novelty of this new music snippet shared on her WhatsApp channel adds to the cryptic teaser she posted on her Instagram profile a few days ago regarding the Greek alphabet letter 'omega'.
Speculation suggests that this could be a key element in her upcoming musical project, similar to how the symbol of the butterfly was significant for Motomami, her latest album released in 2022. The album won the Grammy for Best Latin Alternative or Rock Album, as well as four Latin Grammy awards, including Album of the Year.
