The 41-year-old actor Charlie Cox has signed up to star in the film that is being directed by Jessica Swale for Amazon MGM Studios.
The picture centres on an estranged couple who find out that the dog they share is depressed following their break-up and decide to have an awkward reconciliation when they take their pooch on a sunny holiday to Florida to lift his spirits.
Other stars to have boarded the cast include Chris Redd, Patricia Heaton, David Hunt, Ellyn Jameson, Wynn Everett, Jasmine Matthews and Joey Slotnick.
Linsey Stewart and Dane Clark have penned the screenplay with Matt Beer and Roma Downey producing the film.
Charlie is known for portraying Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the TV series 'Daredevil' and other projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and explained that he feels a "responsibility" to set the tone whenever he plays a leading role on the screen.
He told Total Film magazine: "I think there's a responsibility for you to set a tone. I've been on sets where the lead actor has not fully embraced that, and it can lead to strange feelings on set".
Cox has experienced success on both screen and stage during his career but has still retained some of his long-standing superstitions.
He said: "On stage, I annoyingly buy into some of those things, like you never say the name of the Scottish play, and I try not to whistle. I don't buy into it - I just don't want to risk it!".
