It is never too late to forget the past and rekindle a friendship. That is what Madonna and Elton John have done after more than two decades of being at odds. The music stars announced on Monday that they have made amends after many years in which the British singer publicly expressed his disdain towards the American singer, as reported by Efe.
"We finally buried the hatchet!", Madonna wrote in an Instagram post of a photo where both artists are seen embracing.
This past weekend, the 'Vogue' singer went to see the 'Your Song' performer, who was appearing on the NBC show 'Saturday Night Live', to "confront him" backstage, but they quickly became friends.
"When I met him, the first thing he said to me was 'Forgive me,' and the wall that separated us came down. Forgiveness is a powerful tool. In a matter of minutes, we embraced," Madonna recounted.
John even explained that he wrote a song for her and expressed his desire to collaborate with her.
Madonna revealed that when she was in high school, she attended a concert of the British singer in Detroit, Michigan, an "unforgettable" experience that shaped her understanding of music.
"Throughout the decades, it pained me to know that someone I admired so much publicly expressed their dislike for me as an artist," she expressed.
The British singer also shared the photo with Madonna along with the caption "a moment of healing" and a heart emoji.
The dispute between them originated during the 2004 Q Awards, when Elton John criticized Madonna for lip-syncing while receiving the award for best classical composer. "Madonna, best live performance? Screw off!" John said.
When it was announced that Madonna would be the halftime show star at the 2012 Super Bowl, John reacted by telling her to "make sure to do a good lip-sync."
