Updated

Belgian actress Émilie Dequenne, winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes for her role in 'Rosetta', has passed away at the age of 43 due to a "rare cancer" in a hospital, as reported by 'Le Parisien'

Dequenne announced in October 2023 that she was suffering from an adrenocortical carcinoma (cancer in the endocrine system), which forced her to step away from film sets since then.

Her first role was in 'Rosetta', by the Dardenne brothers, at the age of 18. A debut that earned her the Best Actress award at Cannes in 1999. Additionally, the film won the Palme d'Or.

In the following years, Dequenne managed to participate in many films and work with directors and actors such as Robert De Niro, Gabriel Byrne, or Kathy Bates. In her filmography, her roles in 'Brotherhood of the Wolf' by Christophe Gans, and 'One Woman or Two' by Claude Berri stand out.
