American actress Meryl Streep fled her home, affected by the wildfires that ravaged California, using pliers to cut part of the garden fence to leave the property, as revealed by her nephew Abe Streep, a contributor to New York Magazine.

In the article published by the 75-year-old actress's nephew in the magazine, he states that Meryl Streep received the evacuation order from her home on January 8, the day after the start of the serious fires in Palisades and Eaton, California.

"Evacuation orders were sent to the entire city. My aunt Meryl Streep received an order on January 8, but when she tried to leave, she found that a large tree had fallen at the entrance of her house, blocking her only way out," narrated the nephew of the three-time Oscar winner.

"Determined to leave, she borrowed pliers from neighbors, made a hole the size of a car in the fence she shared with them, and drove through her garden to escape," he specified. The Los Angeles wildfires, the most devastating in its history, claimed the lives of at least 28 people, destroyed over 16,000 structures, and forced the evacuation of more than 150,000 people.
