It seemed like the queen of pop would be left behind in the era of biopics, but we were wrong. The documentary that chronicles Madonna's extensive career on and off the stage has resumed its course, as the singer revealed in an Instagram post.

The project was first announced in 2020. At that time, the singer expressed her desire to share all aspects of her life: "I want to convey the incredible journey of my life: as an artist, musician, dancer... like any human being trying to make their way in this world," she told The Hollywood Reporter.

After a long audition process, Julia Garner was rumored to be the favorite to play the superstar from Michigan. Initially, Amy Pascal was set to produce the film, co-written by Erin Cressida Wilson, the screenwriter of Secretary, and Madonna. However, the production of the film was never easy: all drafts exceeded 180 pages, and there were discussions about turning the project into a miniseries, although those talks never materialized.

In reality, over a year and a half ago, the American film magazine revealed that the project - initially in development by Universal Pictures - would not move forward. The production studio did not issue any statement regarding this.

But now it seems that Madonna is back in action. In a new Instagram post, the pop queen shared a compilation of photos posing next to a typewriter, surrounded by a series of papers. In one of the photos, what appears to be the first page of a script can be seen. And a title: Who's that girl. Could it be a possible title? It is certainly a nod to both her 1987 song and the movie she starred in that same year. The same image shows the authorship of the document: "rewritten by Madonna and ECW," which could be a reference to Erin Cressida Wilson.

The caption could also provide a hint of what's to come: "I need a lot of bands to do this.....OKAY," and below, a postscript: "the story of my life."

It is currently unknown if Universal is still involved in the artist's biopic, but one thing is clear: the Material Girl is back to work on bringing her story to the big screen. And she will do it no matter what.
