Patrick Dempsey, famously known as Dr. McDreamy, underwent a drastic transformation while shooting his latest movie,Ferrari, leaving him and his trademark locks almost unrecognizable.

In a recent interview with Radio Times, the 57-year-old actor disclosed the lengths he went to for the role of Italian race car driver Piero Taruffi, revealing that he dyed his hair platinum blond. However, the combination of the dye and his snug-fitting race helmet left him wishing he'd worn a wig instead.

"I should have opted for a wig because we dyed my hair and it started falling out because of the helmet I had on," the actor told the outlet. "They dyed my hair so much that towards the end of the shoot, I had this monk halo — all the hair was gone!"

This hair dye ordeal seems to have posed its fair share of challenges for the former Grey's Anatomy star. Dempsey recently shared with Vanity Fair that it not only caused hair loss but also resulted in painful blisters on his scalp. "It was a very arduous process. Because we were still in the COVID era, I didn't have enough time to get a wig fitted. We dyed it and we couldn't get the colour right," he explained.

We had a week where my scalp was blistered due to burns before we finally achieved the right shade. That was the hardest part of the movie — getting the color and the style right. But once we accomplished that, we nailed the character's image."

Patrick was recently named People's Sexiest Man Alive and he previously admitted his wife Jillian Fink — with whom he has Talula, 21, and 16-year-old twins Sullivan and Darby — "laughed" when the publication told him he was to receive the coveted accolade.

Asked how his wife and kids reacted, Patrick told US TV show Extra: "She laughed at first. She goes, 'Really? That's great. Fantastic!' And then my kids just tore me up, which they should do, so that was fun, and everybody had their own sort of person they would vote for and we had that debate, so that's good. They won't use [it to brag], but they'll definitely give me a hard time!"
